The problem
The cheapest record isn’t always the cheapest order.
Search for one record at a time and you’ll find the cheapest copy of each. But each of those copies may come from a different seller, and each seller charges its own shipping. Eight records from eight sellers means eight shipping charges.
A seller who has three of your records might charge a dollar more for one of them and still save you money, because the second and third ride along for much less. Other tools help you find a record. Unrip helps you work out the cheapest way to buy several.

How did Unrip save $11.98?
By checking which sellers carried more than one album on the list, then comparing the cost of different combinations, shipping included. Sometimes paying a little more for one record lowers the total, because it rides in an order you were placing anyway.
On Discogs a seller’s first record usually carries most of the shipping, and each one after it adds much less. The real price of a record explains how shipping and tax add up.

How it works
From a list of albums to what to buy, in three steps.
Tell Unrip which albums you want
Bring your saved albums from Spotify, your Discogs wantlist, or search for a record. Choose vinyl or CD.
Let Unrip find a better combination
It checks every copy that meets your standards, prices each one delivered to you, and looks for sellers who have several of yours.
Buy when you’re ready
See which sellers to buy from today, and what each order costs delivered. Or watch a record and wait for a better day.
Bring your list

Or just search for a record: any pressing, or the exact one.
Your standards
The lowest price doesn’t matter if it’s the wrong record.
The same album can be a sealed reissue, a worn first pressing or a CD. Unrip only compares copies you’d actually want. Set your standards once for everything, or just for one record.
- Format
- Vinyl or CD (or cassette). A cheap CD is no use if you wanted the LP.
- Pressing
- Any pressing of the album, or one exact pressing: the original, a particular reissue, a catalog number.
- Condition
- The lowest grade you’ll accept, for the record and its sleeve separately. VG+ and up is a common floor.
- New or used
- Shops sell new copies and sellers mostly sell used. Say how much extra a sealed copy is worth to you.
- Sellers
- A minimum seller rating, sellers to avoid, and which countries you’ll buy from.
- Price limit
- The most you’ll pay for one record, so a rare pressing can’t quietly take over the bill.
When Unrip can’t tell which album a title means, it asks you instead of guessing, because guessing would mean pricing the wrong record.
Should I buy today?
Know when a price is worth acting on.
Every record is judged against its own last 30 days of prices. When one hits its low, Unrip says so in plain words. When nothing’s moved, it says that too.
This is the example list from above, priced from real listings.

Watch a record. Or your Top albums.
Turn on a watch and forget about it. Unrip checks prices about once a day and, once it has two weeks of prices to judge by, sends a browser notification when a record is at its lowest delivered price in a month, or when there’s a good buy among your Top albums.

Behind the scenes
How Unrip compares sellers and shipping.
- Discogs
- eBay
- Target
- Walmart
- Amazon
Unrip looks at two marketplaces seller by seller, plus three shops: Target and Amazon sell new copies, and Walmart sells mostly new, some pre-owned. That isn’t every shop, so a cheaper copy may exist somewhere we didn’t look. Every total Unrip shows is the lowest it found among the copies it checked.
How Unrip calculates a better order
For each record, Unrip collects the copies that meet your standards and works out what each would cost delivered to your ZIP code, using that seller’s own shipping rules: usually a first-record charge and a smaller charge for each record after it. Where a shop’s free-shipping threshold might apply, Unrip doesn’t count on it, so a total is never flattered by free shipping you might not get.
Then it weighs the combinations. Buying Record A from one seller can make Record B cheaper from that same seller, so the records can’t be priced one at a time. Unrip treats the whole choice as one problem and looks for the set of orders with the lowest delivered total.
It won’t buy savings with a bad price. A record only joins a combination when its copy is at or under that record’s usual price, judged against its own recent history, so a cheap order never hides one overpriced record.
Before you start
Free to use. You buy from the seller.
Free, with no paid tier
Ads on Unrip’s public pages pay for it. There are none in the app, and they never change which copies Unrip recommends.
No Unrip checkout
You place each order on the seller’s own site, and they handle payment, delivery and returns. Unrip never sees your card and takes no cut.
Several orders, not one
Records from different sellers are separate orders. That’s usually what makes the total lower.
Check before you pay
Confirm the pressing, the condition and the final total at checkout. Finding a copy doesn’t reserve it.
Questions
Questions about buying records with Unrip.
Does Unrip compare vinyl records and CDs?
Yes. You choose vinyl or CD for each record, along with the pressing and the lowest condition you’ll accept. Unrip only compares copies that match.
Does Unrip include shipping costs?
Yes. Every price is an estimated delivered price: the copy plus its seller’s shipping to your ZIP code. Shipping is shared when several records come from one seller. Confirm the final total at the seller’s checkout, because a copy can sell or change price.
Which websites does Unrip compare?
Two marketplaces, Discogs and eBay, seller by seller, and three shops: Target, Walmart and Amazon. That isn’t every shop, so a cheaper copy may exist somewhere we didn’t look. Where we look has the details.
Can I import my Spotify albums or Discogs wantlist?
Yes. Pick from the albums saved in your Spotify library, or connect Discogs to read your wantlist. Neither asks for your password. You can also search for any record.
Is Unrip free?
Yes, and there is no paid tier. Ads on the public pages pay for it. There are none in the app, and they never change what Unrip recommends. You buy from each seller directly; Unrip takes no payment and no cut.
How do Unrip’s price alerts work?
Turn on a watch for a record, or for your Top albums. Unrip checks prices about once a day and, once it has two weeks of prices, sends a browser notification when it’s at its lowest delivered price in 30 days. Alerts aren’t instant, and nothing is watched until you turn it on.
Does Unrip work outside the United States?
Not yet. Unrip only works out shipping for delivery within the United States, and shipping is a large part of what it compares.

The real price of a record: shipping, combined orders and tax
The listed price is only part of what a record costs. How Discogs and eBay charge shipping on several records, how tax lands on top, what a cheap mailer can cost, and when buying from one seller beats buying the cheapest copy of each.

Record grading explained: what Mint, VG+ and Good really mean
The Goldmine scale from Mint to Poor, why a record and its sleeve get separate grades, where grades get stretched, what to ask a seller, and what to do if a used record arrives worse than described.
Why Unrip exists
Stream digitally. Collect physically.
Unrip was built by a software engineer who loves music and hi-fi, and who started collecting records after years of saving albums on Spotify. Hundreds of albums meant hundreds of searches, and the prices were the easy part. The work was finding which sellers had several, working out shipping, and starting over when prices moved.
